The real question for the future interactions of mankind with their constructed Artificial Intelligences is who is to the the master.

Context

  Nature has placed mankind under the governance of two sovereign masters, pain and pleasure. It is for them alone to point out what we ought to do, as well as to determine what we shall do. On the one hand the standard of right and wrong, on the other the chain of causes and effects, are fastened to their throne. They govern us in all we do, in all we say, in all we think: every effort we can make to throw off our subjection, will serve but to demonstrate and confirm it. In words a man may pretend to abjure their empire: but in reality he will remain subject to it all the while. The principle of utility recognizes this subjection, and assumes it for the foundation of that system, the object of which is to rear the fabric of felicity by the hands of reason and of law. Systems which attempt to question it, deal in sounds instead of sense, in caprice instead of reason, in darkness instead of light.

• Yann LeCun had been trying to give machines a basic grasp of how the world works for years. It wasn't working for him or anywhere else. The field had become so disappointing that it even created a new word for what was lacking Artificial General Intelligence. In 2022 LeCun developed a new approach that he hopes will result in an Artificial Intelligence that can navigate the real world. His insight was that existing AI could not perform abstraction. ^[1]

Solutions

Neither the problems, nor the solutions to AI require new insight. Both were explained by Jean Piaget in 1950.^[2]

All of his work was with small sample sizes and is denigrated today for its lack of rigor. While current researchers have found more exact ages for development, and noted that it varies between experiments and experimenters, the plan shown by just the chapter headings appears to be the current plan for development of AI now in 2022.
