Full Title
ISO standard for a Mobile Driver's License used online.
Context
The ISO/IEC TS 18013-7:2024 standard has now been released. This standard is a game changer for verifying mobile driver's licenses, especially in online scenarios.
While ISO 18013-5 focused on mobile driver's licenses used in offline contexts, ISO 18013-7 enables the use of mobile driver's licenses online, allowing individuals to verify their identities remotely.
For relying parties, ISO 18013-7 offers a cost-effective implementation at scale. It will be the most efficient option for large-scale deployment.
Here is a demo showing how to use a mobile driver's license (mDL) online, while also verifying that the person sharing the mDL is the rightful owner. First, the mDL is shared and verified using the ISO 18013-7, followed by a remote authentication process where a liveness check is performed and the user's face is matched to the photo in the mDL.
This video is a demo showcasing the potential use of a mobile driver's license (mDL).
We have an ISO 18013-7 Verifier available in a container. If anyone is interested in testing it, feel free to reach out.
