Full Title or Meme
The Internet has always supported Edge Computing in the sense that every addressable node was "at the edge" of the network. From the point of view of IP (the Internet Protocol) every computing device was on the edge of some network.
Context
With the advent of Generation 5 cell networks, the idea of Edge Computing was expected to become mainstream as predicted in 2023. Where edge just means not at the central cloud server.
Problems
- It is unclear in 2024-01 how Edge Computing will evolve. Will it just be under the control of the large corporations? Or will it work on behalf of the users? Will it be housed in the network? Or will it be housed in the user's devices?
