"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you." - famous quote comes from Friedrich Nietzsche's Beyond Good and Evil (1886)

Nietzsche warns that when confronting darkness—whether in society, philosophy, or personal struggles—there’s a risk of becoming consumed by it. The abyss represents nihilism, despair, or moral corruption, and staring into it too long can lead one to lose themselves in the very thing they sought to overcome2.

It’s a powerful reflection on self-awareness, moral integrity, and the dangers of unchecked obsession.
