What You’ll Need - A PC or laptop with:

 - **Intel or AMD 64-bit CPU**
 - **4GB RAM or more**
 - **16GB storage or more**

- An **8GB+ USB drive** - A second computer to create the installer (using the Chrome browser)

Steps to Convert Your Machine

1. **Install the Chromebook Recovery Utility**

  - Open Chrome on any computer and install the [Chromebook Recovery Utility](https://www.popsci.com/diy/chromeos-flex-guide/) extension.

2. **Create the ChromeOS Flex Installer**

  - Launch the utility and select “ChromeOS Flex” as the model.
  - Flash the USB drive with the OS image.

3. **Boot Your Old Machine from USB**

  - Insert the USB into your Windows 10 machine.
  - Restart and enter the boot menu (usually F12 or Esc).
  - Select the USB drive to boot into ChromeOS Flex.

4. **Try or Install**

  - You can run ChromeOS Flex in “live” mode or install it permanently.
  - **Note**: Installing will erase your hard drive, so back up important files first.

Limitations to Keep in Mind

- **No Android app support** (unlike standard Chromebooks) - **No verified boot or firmware updates** - **Some hardware features (like fingerprint readers or webcams) may not work perfectly**
