Dorothy E. Denning (wiki) is a member of the National Cyber Security Hall of Fame and coined the term "Liveness" in her 2001 Information Security Magazine Article: It's "liveness," not secrecy, that counts.[1]
She states: "A good biometric system should not depend on secrecy," and,
"...biometric prints need not be kept secret, but the validation process must check for liveness of the readings."
Decades ahead of her time, Dorothy E. Denning's vision for Liveness Detection in biometric face verification could not have been more correct.
