The Anthropocene is a proposed geological epoch that signifies the period when human activities have had a significant and lasting impact on the Earth's geology and ecosystems. While not yet officially recognized as a geological epoch, the term is widely used to describe the current era where human influence is a dominant force shaping the planet typically starting at the end of WW II.
