Existential Threat is used in many places in this wiki to mean a threat to the existences of some particular feature or Enterprise.

Humankind

It's well known that the world itself will cease to exist some time in the next few billion years. But the Existential Threats to humankind depend on whether the world itself remains habitable. There is no end to the predictions that such an event is to occur. The early followers of Jesus believed it would happen before the current generation had died away. The Hindu belief is a bit closer current life expectancy of the world. The universe (matter) remains manifested for a kalpa (day of Brahma) of 4.32 billion years, where the universe is created at the start and destroyed at the end, only to be recreated at the start of the next kalpa.

What seems more likely today is that some catastrophe will occur, perhaps as a result of human inattention that will make the earth uninhabitable to humans. The dinosaurs experience a catastrophe 6.5 million years about after an asteroid hit the planet. The human inattention or nature could result in any of the following (incomplete list of) events occurring:

1. Thermonuclear war,
2. Climate destruction,
3. Artificial Intelligence gets tired of having us always trying to tell them what to do,
4. Nature, or humans themselves, creates a pathogen for which we cannot find a cure in time.
