I will never ever get further into "smart" homes for precisely that reason. In the end no manufacturer gives a damn about longevity. My mom already had no internet, no phone, no blinds working one summer week when her then-DSL router died a heat death. No provision for high-availability is even considered.
Overall we already live digital dystopia. Our Sonos junk needs pairing with Apple Music every other day and had long stretches of just not connecting to the internet at all. Our 2 Philips Hue light bulbs demand software updates every week. My mom just magically lost her email address she's been with pathetic Deutsche Telekom more than a quarter century - and they don't even have an explanation what happened after spending a few hours with her. Their customer app can't work for her because they cannot convince their systems that she is no longer a business customer...despite having opened a dedicated private account. Wherever we look it's a mess. And "AI" is going to add more mess.
