Context
UN/CEFACT’s work on a Global Trust Registry is a critical step to address the current fragmentation of trust infrastructures. While the EU eIDAS framework provides a legally anchored model with a qualified trust list, most regions lack such standardized, verifiable structures.
Current trust anchors like Adobes’s AATL or Microsoft’s Root Certificate Program serve specific use cases but fall short of public governance, neutrality, and cross-domain interoperability.
A UN-hosted Global Trust Registry, built on standardized credentials like the Digital Identity Anchor and a neutral governance, can close this gap. It offers a foundation for cross-border assurance, benefiting global trade, compliance, and digital public services.
The need for harmonized, high-assurance trust registries is growing. Now is the right time to shape this.
First Meeting
The UN CEFACT “Global Trust Registry” project will hold its first public meeting this Thursday, 5 June at 1700 AEST (0700 UTC).
There will be a repeat of this meeting on Friday 6 June at 1000 AEST (0000 UTC) for people working closer to a Pacific Standard Time.
Our current plan is to have these meetings every 2 weeks with two times of day so that at least one of the meetings will be easier to attend whatever timezone you are joining from.
We may change the frequency and times as the project progresses and the world goes through different northern and southern hemisphere adjustments for daylight savings. Meetings will be publicly accessible, with sessions recorded and a transcript automatically captured.
The agenda for the kick-off meetings is: - Welcome (all) - Introduction to UN CEFACT by the UN CEFACT Secretary - Introduction to the Global Trust Registry Project (John and Alina)
- Objectives - Deliverables - Participation (IP rules and contributor/observer roles) - Ways of working
- Questions/Discussions (all)
All are welcome to attend as observers and, subject to completing the UN CEFACT Expert Registration process, contribute.
Do not worry if you miss the Kick-Off meeting. The recordings and minutes will be published and the project will remain open to participants arriving after the kick-off.
