Definition

A Sessile Civilization is a culture that has transitioned from a pioneering phase to a more conservative one, where the drive for novelty is replaced by a preference for comfort and continuity. This transition can be seen in the way cultures evolve from creating new ideas and technologies to maintaining and perfecting existing ones.

Context

The term "sessile" comes from the Latin word for "seated" and is often used to describe organisms that do not move about their environment.
