Full Title

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) was created to improve the standards that apply to the Web, or everything that communicates using HTTP.

Context

Committees

The committees, work groups and community groups of interest to Identity Management are:

  • Credential Community Group (CCG) creating both verifiable credentials and Decentralized IDs.

Problems

  • See the wiki page W3C Formal Objections
  • The W3C is built on public universities as the foundation. The benefit is to the users and not the universities. This is not sustainable. MIT will pull out as lead organization at the end of 2022. The common alternate of having large corporation fund a Common Good agencies is obviously and oxymoron. No solution for the public good is in sight.[1]
