Spatial Computing
Full Title or Meme
Spatial Computing is human interaction with a machine in which the machine retains and manipulates referents to real objects and spaces.
Context
First introduced by Simon Greenwold in his MIT Thesis of the same name.[1] "It is an essential component for making our machines fuller partners in our work and play." It is clear that our machine's ability of both read spacial data from the environment and display other spacial data to the user has continued to grow throughout the 21st century. There are two major changes in out relationship to our machines:
- the machines can learn about our the reality where humans and other objects exist,
- the machines can create new images composed of those real objects together with objects of its own devising.
By then end of 2023 public attention had been on virtual and augmented reality (VR and AR aka XR) where the machines had full control and the humans were just visitors. Add multiple users to this VR Cyberspace to get the Metaverse of science fiction and the focus of game playing. But that does not appear to be a place where most people want to spend their lives. The future belongs to rich interactions between human and computer with the human controlling the ecosystem and the machine just a helper. In some cases the machine may exist in some artificial body interacting with the human, but that is not the most common way for the new machine-aided Ecosystem to evolve.
We could categorize metaverse denterpises like Facebook and all of the Gamer computer int the first category while the big gun in Spatial Computing (category 2) is Apple and their visionOS releasing in 2024-02.[2] In this version of spacial computing the human is going about their business within the image projected in front of them. Not only is the human view a cyberspace reality, but interacting with it in a nature way for a human to interact in the real world.
Artificial Intelligence
From the beginning the spacial cyberspace will present images and situations for the humans to complete or to authorize. Already in the warehouses of Amazon the computer are queuing up work for humans and it is be be expected that spatial computing will do the same functionality for ever more complex tasks. In the warehouse it seems like all of the direction will come from the computer, in spacial computing the human and computer will be working together on a set of problems.
Image Processing
Today images are created according to some preset plan. In the future the image will be dynamically created to reflect the work that needs to be done. It will just be another part of the process.
