As humanity moves into the Information Age from the Machine Age it needs to assure that the automated systems now being deployed can be trusted with the Responsibility that is necessary for their integration into the human Ecosystem.

Context

• From their begging computers were expected to be deterministic. The idea that formal proofs of correctness could be generated for computer programs has continued until current times.

Problems

• Uncertainty about how, whether, and when algorithmic harms come to pass is not ever going away.
